Monthly Message for July 2008

Dear Friends,

John Betjeman once wrote: 'Without a church I think a place lacks its heart and identity.'   75 years on do we still agree?

I do, and I would very much like to think that this is how our community of Molesey still view St. Paul's and St. Mary's!

This is why we, as the United Benefice, are now looking to move forward TOGETHER in respect of 'being there for and reaching out to' those who live in and around the locality. I believe there are various aspects of this, especially with regard to:

  • the kind of services that we make available in our churches,

  • how we get involved with meeting the needs of our community, including the vulnerable and needy. This may mean becoming a part of what is already happening, by way of charitable organization etc., and also organising events and courses for which there is a definite need.

Are there ways in which you feel that we can be more effective in these? If so, please do let me have your suggestions by telephone, email or through the letterbox.

There are two other ways that you can get your suggestions to me - one by our new chat room on line. In this edition of The Placard you will see how Daphne Wharton (one of our churchwardens) is helping you to click onto this and put your suggestions.

The other way is to come to our United Benefice PCC Away Day on 19th July at Holy Trinity Church, Claygate at 10.00am. This day will be led by our Archdeacon, Julian Henderson.

For the first hour it is your time and the PCCs will listen and take on board what you say.

At 11.00am you are free to leave us. We will then consider all your suggestions, given over these next few weeks by whatever method you wish. We hope that the day will be productive, as we are open to the leading of God's Holy Spirit in the directions that are best for the UnitedBenefice in relating to its community.

I really do want us to be in this moving forward TOGETHER so please let me have your suggestions. However much you feel your suggestion is not worthy, it will be valued and considered important!

Please also be praying for 19th July - as together we discern what God’s will is for the future of the United Benefice.

With warm greetings

                           Angela
