Messy Church
Picture the headline:
Church congregation increases by 50%.
Well, it’s not wishful
thinking, but a very real prospect for St Paul’s and the United
Benefice. Based on sister congregations at Holy Trinity Church in
Claygate and at Emmanuel Church in Stoughton, near Guildford, these
increases are the order of the day.
How? They have
embraced a number of Fresh Expressions, in reaching out to the
community. Among these is Messy Church, which seeks to reach people
where they are. We are adopting this initiative and will be starting our
own Messy Church in St Paul’s Parish Room on 12th January 2010 at
3.30pm and monthly thereafter (2nd Tuesday in month).
Messy Church is for youngsters, parents and carers, and involves
craft and other activities, a short worship slot in church followed by a
simple meal. It is being adopted all over the country and is a great and
effective way of inviting youngsters and adults to St Paul’s during the
week instead of on Sundays.
Volunteers needed
Would you like to be
part of this exciting adventure? Volunteers to supervise craft
activities, catering and kitchen helpers to feed hungry children and
their parents are vital to the success of our Messy Church.
